The ‘I Should Have Read That Book’ Book Tag

Hi everyone ~ I know it’s probably been a stressful week for you all, with the COVID-19 pandemic impacting so many things. My university switched to online classes for the rest of the semester, and I’ll be staying at home for the foreseeable future. That said, keeping myself busy with finding fun things to do at home and on my own (*cough* reading *cough*) has been really helpful and I highly recommend it! That’s led me to think about some of the books I’ve been meaning to read for some time now (there are too many, honestly), so without further ado, here’s the “I Should Have Read That Book” Book Tag.

This tag was created by Beth of BooksNest

1. A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read

A friend of mine has been recommending me this book for forever, and I’ve been hearing about it for so long from other people too. I’ve been a bit hesitant because I feel like I kind of missed “the time” to read it, and I’m not sure if I would be into something as high fantasy as the cover makes this book out to appear, but my friend recently left me with his copy, so I’ll hopefully be getting to it at some point in the coming months!

2. A book that’s been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t picked it up

I’ve been meaning to read this book ever since it came out, but I just haven’t gotten around to it, and now I feel like it’s been so long that I don’t even really remember a whole lot about the first one. It’s definitely one that I want to read eventually, but I think I’m going to have to wait until I have a solid chunk of time to binge read all of the remaining Rick Riordan books I haven’t read yet.

3. A book in a series you’ve started, but haven’t gotten round to finishing yet

I absolutely LOVED An Ember in the Ashes and A Torch Against The Night, so it’s really embarrassing to admit that I haven’t read the finale in the trilogy that I said got me back into fantasy. By the time this book came out, though, I felt like I had completely forgotten what happened in the last two, and I really wanted to enjoy it fully and understand everything going on so I held off. Similar to the last one, I think I need to find time to reread the first two books so I can then get to this one (I REALLY hope that happens sometime soon ahh).

4. A classic you’ve always liked the sound of, but never actually read

I’ve wanted to read Fahrenheit 451 for FOREVER. As in, I’ve been thinking about reading it since elementary school. I legitimately have no idea why I haven’t yet, other than I just…haven’t. I could easily borrow it from my brother, who has a copy, but for some reason I haven’t gotten around to it. The concept of burning books seems so interesting to me, in that the story could explore so many different areas in the arena of the importance of literature. I think this is one I’m going to prioritize reading in the next month or so, because it’s not that big of a commitment and I don’t really have much else to do sitting at home.

5. A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read

I get very shocked looks every time I tell someone I haven’t read any Sarah J. Mass books. They’re so popular in the YA community, but I never really found the premise all that interesting, probably because I generally haven’t been reaching for fantasy in the last four-ish years. Also the sheer size of all her series intimidates me. Howeover, at this point, I’ve heard so many great reviews that I’d love to sit down and start reading them at some point.

6. A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but you just haven’t read it yet

Hidden Figures is one of my favorite moves of all time. I saw it right after it came out in theaters with my mom, and have seen it again multiple times since then. I didn’t even know it was a book before I saw it the first time, but if the book is anything like the movie, I’m sure that I would love it and hope to read it in the span of my lifetime.

7. A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet

I’ve seen Loveboat, Taipei all over instagram and I’ve seen a lot of great reviews from bookstagrammers I follow and admire, plus I’m always down for more Asian American representation, so I’d love to read this book. I’m hoping to get to it at some point in the coming months! But there are also so many other books on my TBR that that’s only a hope 😦

If you want to do this tag, I tag you! If you mention me in your post, I’ll be sure to take a look at it 🙂 In addition, here are some specific people I’d love to see do it:

That’s all for now–thanks so much as always for reading, and I’ll see you again soon! Please remember to take care of yourself and take time to relax and do something you enjoy with all the panic and craziness going on. Also, stay safe and healthy; we’re going to get through this!! ❤
